2023 Burning Daylight Sauvignon Blanc
Sauvignon Blanc grows exceptionally well at Bell Mountain where we use two distinct rootstocks and clones to create variety and flavor in our wines. Grapes are harvested over a period of two weeks to allow ripening for different levels of acidity and sugar, creating more flavors. The experimentation continues in the winery where the wine is placed into a mix of new and neutral French oak barrels after fermentation to impart additional flavors while allowing for a longer maturation period. All of these factors combined to create an exceptionally aromatic, rich, and balanced wine with an array of flavors bursting from the glass.
The 2023 Burning Daylight offers exceptional balance and complexity. On the nose it shows aromas of fresh pineapple, ripe grapefruit, and mango, with chamomile and apricot notes. On the palate, the barrel maturation and extended lees contact soften the natural high Sauvignon Blanc acidity, while also adding body and structure to the wine. The finish is long with a lingering impression of white peach.
Vintage
The 2023 vintage was exceptional in so many ways and is expected to stand out as one of the finest. Beginning with a much-needed abundance of rainfall, a welcome relief after three years of intense drought, the vineyard came back to life with vibrant soil and canopies. A cool spring and summer allowed for a prolonged and gradual ripening period, resulting in exceptional phenolic ripeness and abundant flavors without excessively high sugar levels. Harvest kicked off later than usual, progressing at a steady pace that required lots of patience. This promises to be a vintage worth remembering and one that will let Bell Mountain truly express itself. We can't wait to savor the fruits of this extraordinary season.
